A

an investigation and evaluation of conditions within which the project will be completed- find out the context of the project. Is a part of programming if ID is hired to do the programming

what’s the difference between site analysis and field survey

A

a field survey is part of site analysis. It’s basically drawing up the space in detail (if existing), noting potential noise problems. if not existing, reviewing the architectural drawings. Site analysis includes more info like photos, social context, sustainability potential, HVAC loads. HVAC condition is looked at in a field survey

what are some things to consider if you want to select a sustainable site or building

A

storm water management plan is implemented

has a minimum of 50% of it’s parking spaces underground or covered

roof has a high solar reflectance index or a green roof

exterior lighting doesn’t create light pollution

has an irrigation system that uses rain or recycled water

supplies at least 5% of it’s total energy through onsite renewable energy

in a walk-able community with pedestrian access to at least 10 basic services like banks, schools etc

within 1/2 mile of a light rail or 1/4 mile of two or more bus lines

secure bike storage with changing and shower facilities

preferred parking is provided for carpools
