Pulmonary OMM Flashcards
What effect will increased PNS activation have on the Respiratory System?
Copious Secretions
Bronchoconstriction
What effect will increased SNS activation have on the Respiratory System?
Bronchodilation
Which type of ANS activation is seen in disease states?
Increased Sympathetic Tone.
What is the difference between Ventilation and Respiration?
Ventilation is the physical act of bringing air into the lungs with respiratory muscles
Respiration includes the chemical reaction of Gas exchange between resp and circulatory system.
What variables can affect Respiration?
Volume and distribution of flow through the pulmonary circulation
Vol and Dist of Ventilation in lungs
Diffusion charicteristics of Oxygen and CO2 across air-blood barrier
What are the Muscles that are active in Elevating the Rib cage?
SCM, Serratus anterior, scalenes, pectoralis major/minor, external intercostal
What are the Muscles that are active in Depressing the Rib cage?
Rectus abdominus, Internal Intercostals, Serratus Posterior inferior, latissimus dorsi
How does the thoracic curve alter pulmonary function?
if curve is >50 degrees
What is the effect of coughing on Respiratory dysfunctions?
More likely to have locked down ribs
What is the effect of increased PNS tone on the mucocilliary elevator?
increased tone leads to thinning and increased volume of secretions. (Drowning in fluids)
What are the Viscerosomatic levels in the lung?
RUL Pneu- T1-3 RML Pneu- T3-4 RLL Pneu- T4-6 (3 lobes on the right) LUL Pneu- T1-3 LLL Pneu- T4-6 (2 lobes on the left)
What is an important consideration in treating SDs in Asthma?
DO NOT treat the OA first.
