What are the different types of Coal Worker’s Pneumoconiosis?
Anthracosis- from pollution, not very much accumulation
Asymptomatic- no cell rxn
Simple - macule, nodule with collagen fibrils
Complicated- progressive or massive fibrosis
PMF (Pulmonary Massive Fibrosis)- Scarring
What is Silicosis?
Fibrogenic antigen coming from stone based working
Progressive SOB
Pure Quartz is very fibrogenic leads to collagen deposition in the lungs
How can silicosis be diagnosed?
Polarized light on nodule tissue shows the shiny particles!
What is the difference between serpentines and amphiboles in Asbestosis?
Serp: Flexible (more common, easier to get rid of)
Amph: Brittle/Straight (more pathogenic) correlates with mesothelioma
