Exercise Physiology Flashcards
What are the components of Stroke volume?
End diastolic volume minus End systolic volume
What are the 3 components that the SNS can effect?
Heart Rate
Total Peripheral Resistance
Contractility
Why does HR increase during exercise?
The baroreceptor set point is reset at onset of exercise.
Caused by central command
How does the Baroreflex maintain BP set point?
Alters Total Peripheral Resistance and Cardiac Output
What is the average cardiac output at rest?
5 L/min
What causes vasodilation in muscles during exercise?
Buildup of metabolites directly cause vasodilation, which overrides sympathetic input.
What are the components of VO2?
HR x SV x avO2diff
WHat are the causes of increased venous return?
Muscle Pump
Respiratory pump
Redistribution of flow
Why does Stroke volume increase during exercise?
Inc Venous Return
Inc SNA on Cardiac muscle
Dec TPR
What is avO2 difference?
Why does it increase?
Difference in oxygen saturation between Arterial and Venous blood.
As you work harder muscle takes more O2 and venous saturations decreases
What are the phases of integrated regulation of respiration during exercise?
Phase 1: central command
Phase2: Ve rises to reach steady state(cent command, periph chemoreceptors)
Phase 3: Fine Tuning from peripheral feedback
Recovery: sharp Decline from loss of central command and peripheral input
What is the point called when cellular demands outpace cellular energy capacity?
Lactate threshold. elbow bend in the lactate graph
What happens to lactate threshold graph with training?
Shifted to the right
