Pulm rehab Flashcards
what are the methods of oxygen delivery
low-flow o2
high-flow o2
what is the nasal cannula
adult: 0-6 l/m
<4 l requires humidity
24-44%
what is the venturi system
-supplies given FIO2 2 flows and higher than inspiratory demand
uses entrainment
what is a non-rebreather mask
- “reservoir” with one-way valves
- b/w reservoir and mask
- on exhalation ports
60-100% delivered
>70% is rare
good way to give a lot of oxygen to someone who is still breathing
high flow and high humidity devices
- flow rates that exceed the patient’s inspiratory flow rates (>30 lpm)
- prevents dryness of nasal mucosa by warming and humidifying inhaled gas
- allows blending of room air and oxygen to provide precise Fio2
- need to consider diff between flow and fi02
what are some precautions of oxygen therapy
- oxygen toxicity
- atelectasis
- infection with unclean equipment
- retinopathy of prematurity
- depression of ventilation
what is the frequency for pulm rehab
3-5x a week
what is the intensity of pulm rehab
RPE goal 3-5
assuming all other VS are ok
what is the time of pulm rehab
variable but progress to >150 min/week of mod intensity
talk about pulm rehab, intensity and RPE
keep RPE between 3-5
- need to determine primary symptom: SOB/DOE or fatigue/wekaness
- keep oxygen level >89%
talk test
what does pulm rehab not do
no consistent improvement in PFT
