ECG: Ventricular Flashcards
Describe premature ventricular contraction
rhythm: underlying, irregular at PVC
rate: underlying
p waves: underlying, absent at PVC
PR interval: underlying, absent at PVC
QRS complex: underlying, wide and bizarre at PVC (>0.12 sec)
- most common looking rhythym after open heart surgery
- patient wont know they have it
- PVCs could signify increased irritation to ventricles or abnormal lab value (K)
Describe Couplet
Two PVCs in a row
Describe bigeminy
every other beat is a PVC
describe trigeminy
every third beat is a PVC
-the greater the frequency of PVCs, the greater the risk of develpoing VT/VF
Describe unifocal PVC
PVC’s look similar to eachother
Describe multifocal PVC
PVC’s look different from each other
-could signify increased irritation to the ventricles
Describe ventricular tachycardia
rhythm: regular
rate: 100-250
p waves: absent
PR interval: absent
QRS complex: wide and bizarre
- life threatening
- VF/VT: there is reduced or no CO
- find the nearest chair
- NSVT: non-sustained ventricular tachycarida
- ventricle not filling/emptying normally so BP going down
Describe ventricular fibrillation
rhythm: absent
rate: absent
p waves: absent
PR interval: absent
QRS complex: absent
-only thing that will help is defibrillation CALL 911
Describe idioventricular rhythm
rhythm: regular
rate: 20-40
p waves: absent
PR interval: absent
QRS complex: wide
-dying heart
What is the R-on-T phenomena?
- PVC occurs on the T-wave during the relative refractory period
- may lead to VT or VF
