What is Public Health?
It recognises the effect of an individual’s interaction with their social environment on their health. It helps people remain healthy and protects them from threats to their health.
In what way does Public Health aim to achieve holistic health for all?
Promoting healthy lifestyles. Reducing inequalities. Researching disease and injury prevention. Detecting, preventing and responding to infectious diseases. Providing adequate services.
Define Health Promotion.
A range of activities and interventions to enable people to take greater control over their health and improve it.
What are the 3 Levels of Disease Prevention?
Primary - Prevention of onset of disease through education.
Secondary - Preventing progression of disease, early diagnosis to halt or slow progress of disease.
Tertiary - Reducing further disability and suffering in those already ill, preventing recurrence or an illness.
Name the 5 Approaches to Health Promotion
Medical. (Primary, Secondary, Tertiary). Behaviour Change. Education. Empowerment. Social Change.
