Primary survey
-General impression
-Determine level of consciousness
•Alert & Oriented(A&O)
•Can u tell me ur name?
•Can u tell me where u are?
•Can tell me what’s the year?
•How did this happen?
-Determine any life threats
-ABC
-Priority pt/Transport
History taking
-Obtain baseline vitals •BP •Respiratory Rate •Pulse Rate -AMPLE
Secondary assessment
DCAP BTLS -Head •check Head for Bleeding •Assess eyes,ears,nose mouth for secretions •Make airway isn’t compromise -Neck •check for JVD, tracheal deviation, cervical spine -Chest •Expose Chest •Palpate Chest •Auscultate chest and lungs
Secondary assessment after checking chest
-Abdomen/Pelvis •Inspect & palpate abdomen •Assess Pelvis •Assess genitalia -Lower extremity •Palpate Each legs •check for PMS -Check Each arms •Palpate arms •Check PMS -Assess back, spine, buttocks
Reassessment
-Reassess every 5 sec
ABC
-Airway
•Opens assess airway
•Determine the need of an OPA or NPA
-Breathing
•Assess breathing & Adequate ventilation
•Manage Injury that would compromise ventilation
•Initiate O2 therapy
-Circulation
•Check for Major bleedings
•check pulse & skin signs( color,temp, condition)
•Treat for shock
After you do your head to toe survey, an EMT SHOULD
Manage any secondary injuries
