Feminist Family Therapy
Grew from feminist movement, postmodernism
CRITICISMS OFFERED BY FFT:
1) Neutrality: oppression must be acknowledged and emphasized. Aligning with oppressed group is better; neutrality means reinforcing status-quo and the cycle of oppression. Intentional alignment.
2) Cybernetics: All problems due to all parts - everyone involved equally in all problems, but not true for societal oppression.
3) Circularity can lead to victim-blaming. We may not all play a role in every problem.
4) Bowen’s Differentiation/increasing rationality doesn’t leave room for the rich emotional expression women can bring.
Striving for more egalitarian relationships instead of hierarchical ones.
