What are the general signs of pruritus?
No primary lesions, secondary lesions due to scratching and rubbing possible.
What are the three patterns of pruritus?
Blood deficiency, blood heat, and wind-cold.
Worse during autumn and winter, usually dry skin, scabs, lacklustre complexion, palpitations, insomnia, light-headedness, pale tongue with no fur and thin wiry pulse (or thready pulse). What pattern is this?
Blood deficiency pruritus.
What is the tx principle for blood deficiency pruritus?
Nourish blood, moisten dryness, and dispel wind to stop dryness.
What is the herbal prescription for blood deficiency pruritus?
Dang Gui Yin Zi.
Scratching often leading to bleeding and scabs, aggravated by warmth, thirst, restlessness, red tongue body or tip, pulse may be wiry-rapid or slippery rapid. What pattern is this?
Blood heat pruritus.
What is the herbal formula for blood heat pruritus?
Liang Xue Xiao Feng San.
Worse in winter, affects head, face, hands, chest, neck, itching worse with cold, alleviated with warmth, dry, scaly skin, pale tongue with white fur, and floating pulse. What pattern is this?
Wind-cold pruritus.
What is the tx principle for wind cold pruritus?
Dispel wind and scatter cold.
What is the herbal formula for wind-cold pruritus?
Gui Zhi Ma Huang Ge Ban Tang.
What are some points for pruritus?
LI11, ST36, LI4, SP6, SP10, extra point 1 cun above SP10 (LE3).
