Contagious superficial infection of the skin characterized by vesicles and pustules.
What is impetigo caused by?
Prior antibiotic therapy, poor hygiene, crowded living conditions, and neglected minor trauma.
What are the common areas of impetigo?
Arms and legs and around the mouth and nose, can affect any area of the body.
What is the TCM aetiology of impetigo?
Damp-heat attacking the wei qi and then accumulating in the skin.
What is the tx principle for impetigo?
Clear heat, transform dampness, cool the blood, and relieve toxicity.
What is the internal formula for impetigo?
Huang lian jie du tang.
What are the external washes used for impetigo?
Qing dai san, wu zhu yu gao, and xi chuang fang.
What are two empirical treatments that can be used for impetigo?
Pomegranate skin or unripened papaya.
What acupuncture can be utilized for impetigo?
No local needling but distal points can be used to clear the channels that the lesions are on.
