Proteinsynthesis Flashcards
What does RNA stand for?
ribonucleic acid
How does RNA differ from DNA?
Has base uracil instead of thymine
RNA is a single strand
Sugar in RNA is ribose
What happens with Transcription?
making mRNA using the sequence in DNA.
What occurs during Transcription?
DNA strands separate
RNA copies DNA bases(strand called mRNA)
This is aided by the RNA polymerase.
What does mRNA stand for?
messenger RNA
What is Translation?
making a protein using the RNA code
What occurs during Translation?
mRNA attaches rRNA
tRNA carries an anticodon and an amino acid
tRNA anticodon is complementary to codon on mRNA molecule
They attach and an amino acid is formed
This continues until stop codon is reached
Protein is folded
What does tRNA stand for?
transfer RNA
What does rRNA stand for?
ribosomal RNA
