Chapter 33 :Excretion Flashcards
What is homeostasis?
the maintenance of a constant internal environment
Why do living things need to control their temperature?
to maintain metabolic function ,pH control, temperature and fluid balance
Functions of skin:
Protection: Barrier preventing pathogens from entering
Warmth(adipose tissue)
Makes melanin to protect to UV radiation
Food storage(adipose tissue)
Sense organ(nerve fibers for touch)
Temperature Regulation(Cold Conditions)
Cold Conditions:
1.Piloerection: hairs stand up to trap layer of heat to keep you warm
2.Vasodilation: is when blood vessels move away from the skin to Retain heat
Where is urine
(a) made
(b) stored
(c) excreted
(a) kidneys
(b) bladder
(c) urine
What hormone control urine volume and where is it made?
ADH (anti-diuretic-hormone)
pituitary gland
Temperature Regulation(Warm Conditions)
Warm Conditions:
1.Pespiration: water droplets are on the skin to cool down
2.Vasoconstriction: blood vessels move closer
