Proteins Flashcards
What is the food group?
Meat and meat alternatives
What are proteins make up from?
Made up from Amino acids and linked together by peptide linkages
What is CHOPSIN?
CHOPSIN stands for, Carbon, Hydrogen, Oxygen, Phosphorus, Sulfur, Iron and Nitrogen which is all in proteins
What is a complete protein?
A complete protein contains all 8 amino acids and is able too promote growth
What is an incomplete protein?
An incomplete protein is missing one or more amino acids and is not able to maintain life
How much energy does 1g of protein give you?
17kj
What is Proteins main and secondary Source?
protein is essential for growth and it’s secondary sourceit to give energy.
Name other functions of proteins
- Makes up every single cell
- Essential for growth
- Repairs body cells and tissues

there is a change in colour of hair and skin and loss of muscle mass and not able to gain any weight and there is a swelling in the stomach and irritable and fatigued
What happens when there is too much protein?
you can get kidney damage and mass gain
what are the stages of heating proteins?
Normal state, Denaturation, Coagulation and then Syneresis
