Protein Synthesis Flashcards
What is composed of 2 strands of nucleotide molecules arranged in a helix structure?
DNA
What is the template produced from DNA, consisting of only one strand of nucleotide molecules?
RNA
What is the site of protein synthesis?
Ribosomes
What is transcription?
The process of converting DNA to messenger RNA
What is translation?
The process of protein production from an RNA template
What are the two types of nucleus acid?
Dioxyribonucleic Acid (DNA) Ribonucleic Acid (RNA)
What are genes?
sections of DNA strands that specify the amino acids that are required to make a specific protein
Summarise protein synthesis
1: Transcription: Instructions are copied from DNA onto messenger RNA (mRNA) in the nucleus
2: mRNA leaves the nucleus onto the ribosomes
3. Translation: Ribosomes read instructions and make proteins using amino acids
4. Proteins are packaged and ready for release
Adenine, Cytosine, Guanine and Thymine are nucleotides that make up what?
Dioxyribonucleic Acid (DNA)
Adenine, Cytosine, Guanine and Uracile
Ribonucleic Acid (RNA)
