Protein Synthesis Flashcards
What is transcription?
Transcription is base pairing (the code of DNA)
What translation?
Translation is changing the language of information (DNA -> RNA) and carrying it outside of the nucleus
What comes first transcription or translation?
TransCription comes first TransLation comes second
What is the leading strands new name?
The leading strand is called the antisense strand
What is the lagging strands new name?
The lagging strand is now called the sense strand (because it’s the one we need to translate and make sense of)
What is the start of protein synthesis?
AUG is the start (methionine amino acid)
How is the mRNA edited?
Introns cut out information? And EXons remain EXpressed
What is the roll of mRNA?
mRNA makes a copy of DNA (using base pairing), mRNA leaves the nucleus to find a ribosome
What is the role of tRNA?
tRNA carries amino acids that are released when the anti-codons are based on paired with the codons (found on the mRNA)
When does protein synthesis stop?
Protein synthesis has many “stop” amino acids which include UGA, UAA, UAG
What type of RNA is used during transCription?
mRNA is taking the copied DNA out of the nucleus to a ribosome
What type of RNA is used during transLation?
tRNA is getting amino acids for the mRNA in a ribosome
How many codons make up 1 amino acid?
3 codons make up 1 amino acids
Which type of RNA had Codons and Anti-codons
mRNA has codons and tRNA has anti-codons
