Protection measures Flashcards
Staff responsibilities
Staff of an organisation spend most of the time handling data so the company should ensure that the staff are confident in their role and know their responsibilities. Organisations should also be careful when considering which members of staff have access to certain information. Staff should be trained on how to adequately handle information including basic data security techniques and how to protect data.
Disaster and recovery planning
With important data often stored on a computer network it is vital that a detailed disaster recovery policy is in place in case of data being lost in an unexpected disaster. Includes natural disasters (flood), hardware and software failure (virus) and malicious damage (hacking)
Before disaster
All possible risks are analysed and preventative measures should be taken such as flood proof rooms. Staff training should inform employees what to do in case of a disaster.
During the disaster
Employees should follow their training and ensure the data is protected. Contingency plans should be implemented such as securing backups in a safe room
After disaster
Recovery measures should be followed such as using backups to repopulate computer systems. Replacement hardware and software should be installed
