Logical protection Flashcards
Logical protection
Refers to using digital methods of security to protect computer systems and data
Usernames and passwords
They must be matched to minimise the chances of unauthorised users accessing a system.
Passwords
Should contain a mix of upper and lowercase letters, punctuation and numbers. Should be of a substantial length (at least 8 characters)
Antimalware
Antivirus scans a system and removes a virus else it could delete data and permit unauthorised access. Anti spyware removes spyware on an infected system so hackers cant view personal data or monitor users
Firewall
Prevents unauthorised access to or from a network. It filters data packets and blocks anything identified as harmful. This can be a physical device of installed software
Encryption
The conversion of data into an unreadable format so it cannot be understood if intercepted. It can be understood by authorised personnel with a decryption key.
Tiered levels of access
Grants different types of permissions to certain users. This ensures that only authorised people can access and change certain files e.g. no access, read only, read write
Obsfucation
When data is deliberately changed to be unreadable to humans but understandable to computers.
