Loss of reputation
Organisations spend years trying to build a reputation. Data loss immediately destroys that reputation as they are unable to follow their legal and moral duty of keeping information secure and could lead to a loss of trade, reduced earnings and sales
Identity theft
When the attacker uses the victims data for fraud or impersonation. This can lead to financial loss if loans, products and services are purchased in the victims name.
Threat to national security
If classified data is stolen by those who intend to bring harm to the country, then the consequences can be disastrous. It could be used to target vulnerable locations causing casualties. Threats could also be economic if large amounts of money are stolen.
