Sensitive information
Information that should be protected from being publicly released as it could harm safety or privacy e.g. medical or financial data
Non-sensitive information
Information that can be released publicly with no fear of negative consequences e.g. store opening time
Private information
Information on an individual that shouldn’t be shared without the individuals permission it is protected by the Data Protection Act e.g. home addresses and employee data
Public information
Non sensitive information that is released to the public for everyone to see e.g. social media usernames and posts
Personal information
Identifiable data about a specific individual e.g. full name and DOB
Business information
Any public or private data about a specific business e.g. sales figures or headquarters address
Confidential information
Private data that is more restricted than sensitive information with access limited to those who need it e.g. doctor notes or trade secrets
Classified information
Highly sensitive information stored by a government institution requiring the highest level of restricted access e.g. military data and terrorism precautions
Anonymised information
Anonymisation is used to allow information to be used in a wider context without legal action, however if it isn’t anonymised enough, the person can be identified
Anonymisation
Removes personally identifiable data from information so that an individual cannot be identified.
