How would you go about managing an empty building?

A
  • Ensure insurance is in place
  • Meet insurers requirements – usually weekly/fortnightly void inspections to be reported on
  • Carry out a risk assessment – do you need to improve security
  • Pay utilities
  • Pay service charge if applicable
  • Ensure properly maintained

When do you get vacant rates relief?

A

Council Dependent.
Glasgow City Council:
* 100% Relief can be given for the first 3 months that a property is unoccupied.
* 10% Relief will then be available for up to a further 12 months resulting in a total of 15 months Relief being available
* A minimum period of 6 months continuous occupancy is required before a new application for Empty Property Relief can be considered
