Present Negative Progressive Tense is:

Past Positive Progressive Tense is:
~て いました
Past Negative Progressive Tense is:
~て いません でした
たべて います
I am eating

Progressive Verbs are treated as one whole unit and should be put at the end of sentences:
せんせいは よんて いました
The teacher was reading
そのひとは えきに たって いました
That person was standing at the train station
ねこは ねずみを みて います
The cat is watching the mouse

Means: To learn / to know
it is generally used in two forms:
shitte imasu - used to tell somebody that you know, or have already learned this information for present info and:
shirimasen - used to indicate you are unaware of something
しって います
I know
しりません
I don’t know
この ひとを しって いますか
Do you know this person?
