What is the initiating process group?
Consists of those processes that define a new project by obtaining authorization to start.
What are the goals of the initiating process group?
Align the stakeholders’ expectations and the project purpose, inform stakeholders of the objectives, and discuss how their participation can help ensure their expectations are met
What is developed during the initiating stage?
Project charter and identify key stakeholders
What is the planning process group?
Defines the course of action to complete the project. Consists of those processes that establish the total scope of the effort, define and refine the objectives, and develop the course of action required to attain those objectives
What is developed during the planning stage?
Baselines: Project management plan, project documents
What is progressive elaboration or rolling wave planning?
The ongoing refinement of the project management plan, indicating that planning and documentation are iterative activities.

What is the executing process group?
Consists of the processes performed to complete the work defined in the project management plan, including coordinating resources, managing stakeholder engagement and integrating and performing the activities of the project

What is the monitoring and controlling process group?
Consists of the processes to track, review and regulate the performance of the project, identify areas where changes are required, initiate those changes
What does monitoring involve?
Collect performance data, producing performance measures, reporting and disseminating performance information to the appropriate stakeholders
What does controlling involve?
Comparing actual performance with the planned performance, analyzing variances between them, evaluating possible alternatives, recommending appropriate changes

What is the closing process group?
Consists of processes to formally complete or close a project, phase or contract
What are the activities for finalizing a project?
Resources are released, documents are updated and archived, organizational process assets and lessons learned are updated, contracts are closed, and performance metrics and reports are complete
