A
-prisoners HC behind their back and DL (exception: ill, injured, handicapped)

Transporting officer will…?
A
- transportation officer shall search prisoner prior to placing in car
- vehicle used will be searched prior to and immediately after transport
- in caged car prisoner shall be seat belted
- no cage, one officer = prisoner right front
- no cage, two officers = prisoner right rear
- transport officer should not stop during transport unless imminent threat of death/serious injury
- officers shall never leave a prisoner unattended in a vehicle

Use of Detention Van…?
A
-Detention Van used: prisoner is violent, unkempt, multiple prisoners, or arresting officer can’t leave scene

Prisoner escape during transport…
A
- if prisoner escapes during transport, supervisor or MCI will investigate
- if prisoner escapes and is apprehended, additional criminal charges shall be added

Muni Court transport…
A
-if we take a prisoner to Muni Court and they are released, we have to take them to the jail before letting them go

Prisoner transport to the hospital…
A
- if prisoner goes to hospital, Watch Commander will determine if we retain custody
- officer will guard prisoner in hospital at all times and shall not leave the prisoner unattended
- if officer needs to leave hospital room, another officer must relieve him

Prisoner phone use/visitors…
A
prisoners may not use the phone or have visitors while in police custody

A
restraints will be left on the prisoner while they are being searched and their property inventoried
