• transportation officer shall search prisoner prior to placing in car
• vehicle used will be searched prior to and immediately after transport
• in caged car prisoner shall be seat belted
• no cage, one officer = prisoner right front
• no cage, two officers = prisoner right rear
• transport officer should not stop during transport unless imminent threat of death/serious injury
• officers shall never leave a prisoner unattended in a vehicle

Use of Detention Van…?

-Detention Van used: prisoner is violent, unkempt, multiple prisoners, or arresting officer can’t leave scene

Prisoner escape during transport…

• if prisoner escapes during transport, supervisor or MCI will investigate
• if prisoner escapes and is apprehended, additional criminal charges shall be added

Muni Court transport…

-if we take a prisoner to Muni Court and they are released, we have to take them to the jail before letting them go

Prisoner transport to the hospital…

• if prisoner goes to hospital, Watch Commander will determine if we retain custody
• officer will guard prisoner in hospital at all times and shall not leave the prisoner unattended
• if officer needs to leave hospital room, another officer must relieve him
