principles of training Flashcards
what is FITT
frequency- number of times training occurs
intensity- how hard is the training
time- how long does the training last
type- what kind of exercise is being done
what is overload
exercise must become more challenging over the course of the training program
what is progression
gradually build up fitness by overloading in order to improve (often linked to overload - progressive overload)
what is reversibility
loss of fitness due to inactivity
fitness levels are usually lost more quickly if they have been gained quickly
what is specificity
matching training to the requirements of the activity. specific training brings specific results
what is overtraining
overtraining can cause injuries if the same type of exercise is done all the time
what is variance
trying out different types of training in order to prevent an athlete from getting bored
