Long term effects of exercise- cardio-respiratory Flashcards
what physiological adaptations occur in the cardio-respiratory system, after 12 weeks
increased capillarisation in the blood
improved strength of the diaphragm and intercostal muscles
increased untilisation of the alveoli (reduces breathing frequency)
increased tidal volume and minute ventilation
what do the adaptations to the cardio-respiratory system mean
the adaptations mean that more oxygen can be consumed and transported from the alveoli into the capillaries and into the red blood cells
what adaptations occur in the cardiovascular system
reduced systolic phase
increased cardiac output
increased BP when exercising
decreased BP when resting
reduced resting HR
increased number of red blood cells (and haemoglobin)
what are the improvements to sporting performance
working anaerobically for longer (reducing OBLA)
reducing glycogen and PC stores
reduced recovery time
faster lactic acid removal
myoglobin stores resaturated at a faster rate (due to increased oxygen uptake)
