How long do the symptoms has to last in order to be diagnosed with Major Depressive Disorder?
2 weeks.
What are 4 pharmacological medical treatments for Major Depressive Disorder and what do they do?
- SSRI - Inhibit re-uptake of serotonin.
- SNRI - Inhibit the re-uptake of serotonin and NE.
- TCA - Inhibit the re-upatke of serotonin and NE.
- MAOI - Monoamine oxidase inhibitor.
What are 4 symptoms of Atypical Depression?
- Hypersomnia
- Hyperphagia
- Mood reactivity (react to positive things, positivly)
- Hypersensitivity to rejection
What is the most common subtype of depression?
Atypical depression.
What is the treatment for atypical depression?
First-line: SSRIs
What is the percentage of women that will suffer some kind of postpartum blues and how long do they need to last in order for it not to be pathological?
50-75%. Less than 2 weeks.
What is the minimum time needed to be postpartum depression?
More than 2 weeks.
How long does dysthymia need to last to be diagnosed as such?
Two years.

There are 9 categories. You need at least 5 of the symptoms and they must include either depressive mood and/or anhedonia.
