Primary Shoulder Structures Flashcards
Acromioclavicular Ligaments
Control horizontal movements of clavicle
Coracoacromial Ligament
Limits superior translation of humeral head.
Prevents separation of the AC joint.
Coracoclavicular Ligament
Primary support of AC joint.
Limits inferior translation of humeral head.
Made of conoid and trapezoid ligaments.
Coracohumeral ligament
Unite supraspinatus and subscapularis tendon.
Limits inferior translation of humeral head.
Costoclavicular Ligament
Primary supporting ligament for sternoclavicular joint.
Glenohumeral Ligaments
Consists of Superior, Middle, and Inferior ligaments.
Superior limits Adduction and Lateral Rotation in 45 degrees of abduction.
Middle limits Lateral Rotation in 45-90 of abduction.
Inferior has posterior and anterior band that limits medial and lateral rotation respectively, above 90 of abduction.
-Between the bands is in axillary pouch that limits inferior translation when shoulder is above 90 abduction.
Transverse Humeral Ligament
Spans between greater and lesser tubercles, helps to maintain long head of biceps in bicipital groove.
