Uses of the subjunctive
(1) Prohibition
(2) Purpose clauses
Expressing prohibition with subjunctive
μη is used with the second person of the aorist subjunctive
E.g. Μη κολασητε τουτον τον δολουν, ω στρατιωται
Don’t punish this slave (on this occasion), soldiers!
Expressing purpose with subjunctive
Standard way to express purpose is ινα + subjunctive
E.g. Οι ξενοι παρεισοιν ινα την πολιν ιδωσιν
The foreigners are here to see the city
