Lifestyle where a nomadic group herds domesticated animals
Patriarchal
Relating to a social system in which the father is head of the family
Polytheistic
Belief in many gods

The state of an individual held in servitude as the property of another individual
Theocracy
A government in which the ruler is viewed as a divine figure OR a government controlled by religious leaders
Civil Service
The administrative departments of the government, especially those in which employees are hired on the basis of their scores on examinations

Empire
A political unit in which a number of peoples or countries are controlled by a single ruler
Direct democracy
A government where all citizens rule directly rather than through elected or appointed representatives
Autocracy
A government in which the ruler has unlimited power and uses it any manner he chooses
Republic
A form of government in which power is in the hands of representatives and leaders are elected by the people
Caste (Varna)
Each of the 4 main hereditary classes of Hindu society, distinguished by relative degrees of ritual purity and social status
Jati
A Hindu sub caste, typically characterized by exclusive occupation of its male members
