Practical Deck 5 Flashcards
As you identify a crossroad, what routine should you do?
MSPSL
On a main road with crossroads, who has priority?
If you are on the main road you pass through uninterrupted as traffic emerging from the side roads has to give way.
(See Fig.45) You (blue car) are emerging left at a crossroad and a car (purple car) from the road opposite want’s to turn right, who has priority?
You
(See Fig.45) You (blue car) are going straight ahead at the crossroad and a car (purple car) from the road opposite want’s to turn right, who has priority?
You
(See Fig.46) You (blue car) are emerging right at the crossroad and a car (purple car) from the road opposite want’s to turn left, who has priority?
Purple car has priority
(See Fig.46) You (blue car) are emerging right at the crossroad and a car (purple car) from the road opposite want’s to go straight ahead, who has priority?
Purple car has priority
(See Fig.46) You (blue car) are emerging right at the crossroad and a car (purple car) from the road opposite want’s to turn right, who has priority?
No one has priority. We won’t get in each others way even if we go at the same time.
(See Fig.47) You (blue car) are on the main road and about to turn right at the crossroad and a car (red car) from the road opposite want’s to turn right, who has priority?
No one has priority. But you will have two options. Near side to near side (turn behind each other) or offside to offside (turn infront of each other). Usually it’s offside to offside especially when the road is narrow
Envision what Near side to near side and offside to offside manoeuvre looks like.
(See Fig.48)
(See Fig.49) You are turning right at the crossroad controlled by traffic lights and a car (black car) from the road opposite is going straight ahead. Who has priority?
Black car has priority. Slowdown and wait in the middle of junction (point of turn) for the oncoming traffic and go when it’s safe.
Envision how to safely turn right at a traffic light controlled crossroad.
(See Fig.50)
(See Fig.51) You are driving and you see a silver truck parked on the kerb slightly obstructing your lane. What do you do?
check middle and right mirror before manoeuvring around the parked van by driving more to the right right side of your lane.
(See Fig.52) You are driving along a narrow road with many cars parked on the sides of the road. You see a black car driving towards you. Should you pull up or should they?
(See Fig.53) I should pull up because I have one open gap on my lane nearer to me than any gap on the other cars lane closer to the car. Once the car has driven past you, check middle and right mirror before manoeuvring around the parked cars by driving more to the right side of your lane.
(See Fig.54) You are driving along a narrow road with many cars parked on the sides of the road and a T junction approaching your lane. You see multiple cars driving towards you. Should you hold back or should they?
(See Fig.55) I should hold back because I can use the left side of the T junction as an open gap on my lane. It was nearer to me than any gap on the other cars lane closer to the cars. Also because there are more cars going towards you, they should have priority so long as you can find an opening. Once the car has driven past you, check middle and right mirror before manoeuvring around the parked cars by driving more to the right right side of your lane.
(See Fig.56) You turn to find the road you have just joined has traffic. The last car in the traffic is just in-front of the pedestrian crossing. You see that the lights are still green. Are you able to stop behind the car within normal distance?
No, even when the lights are green, I must stop at the traffic light give way line.
