Q

(See Fig.47) You (blue car) are on the main road and about to turn right at the crossroad and a car (red car) from the road opposite want’s to turn right, who has priority?

A

No one has priority. But you will have two options. Near side to near side (turn behind each other) or offside to offside (turn infront of each other). Usually it’s offside to offside especially when the road is narrow

(See Fig.49) You are turning right at the crossroad controlled by traffic lights and a car (black car) from the road opposite is going straight ahead. Who has priority?

A

Black car has priority. Slowdown and wait in the middle of junction (point of turn) for the oncoming traffic and go when it’s safe.

Q

(See Fig.52) You are driving along a narrow road with many cars parked on the sides of the road. You see a black car driving towards you. Should you pull up or should they?

A

(See Fig.53) I should pull up because I have one open gap on my lane nearer to me than any gap on the other cars lane closer to the car. Once the car has driven past you, check middle and right mirror before manoeuvring around the parked cars by driving more to the right side of your lane.

Q

(See Fig.54) You are driving along a narrow road with many cars parked on the sides of the road and a T junction approaching your lane. You see multiple cars driving towards you. Should you hold back or should they?

A

(See Fig.55) I should hold back because I can use the left side of the T junction as an open gap on my lane. It was nearer to me than any gap on the other cars lane closer to the cars. Also because there are more cars going towards you, they should have priority so long as you can find an opening. Once the car has driven past you, check middle and right mirror before manoeuvring around the parked cars by driving more to the right right side of your lane.

(See Fig.56) You turn to find the road you have just joined has traffic. The last car in the traffic is just in-front of the pedestrian crossing. You see that the lights are still green. Are you able to stop behind the car within normal distance?

A

No, even when the lights are green, I must stop at the traffic light give way line.

Q

(See Fig.57) You are driving along a road with two cars parked on the other lane. You see a red van driving towards you. Should you pull up or should they?

A

They should pull up as my side has no obstructions and the van should be able to use the back of the silver car as an opening to pull up behind to wait for me to drive by

17
Q

Tell me how you’d check the power-assisted steering is working before starting a journey.

A

If the steering becomes heavy, the system may not be working properly. Before starting a journey, 2 simple checks can be made.

Gentle pressure on the steering wheel, maintained while the engine is started, should result in a slight but noticeable movement as the system begins to operate. Alternatively turning the steering wheel just after moving off will give an immediate indication that the power assistance is functioning.

18
Q

Tell me how you switch your headlight from dipped to main beam and explain how you’d know the main beam is on.

A

Operate switch (See Fig.98) (with ignition or engine on if necessary), Then push left stick towards the dash (See Fig.99) check with the main beam warning light.
(See Fig.100) for blue main beam sign indicating it is on.

19
Q

How do you open the bonnet?

A
  1. Handbrake’s on and the ignition’s turned off.
  2. Let your engine cool for about 10 minutes.
  3. Reach under the dash and pull the lever (See Fig.103) so that it becomes close to horizontal. The bonnet will pop open.
  4. Lift the bonnet slightly and feel the release catch, then slide it to the left (See Fig.104).
  5. Lift the bonnet fully, then prop it up safely.
20
Q

How do you close the bonnet?

A
  1. Hold it up with one hand, release the strut with the other.
  2. Let the bonnet down, then about 30 cm from the body, drop it to lock it.
21
Q

Envision the bonnet lever

A

(See Fig.58) Can also be a sign-less lever near the peddles

22
Q

Envision where abouts the bonnet release catch is

A

(See Fig.104)

23
Q

Envision the bonnet prop

Is the rear demister the same as the rear defroster?

A

25
Q

Envision where the window defroster buttons would be

A

(See Fig.61)

26
Q

When it’s safe to do so, can you show me how you’d operate the horn?

A

(See Fig.63)
