Q

(See Fig.108) You are driving on a country road and you are approaching the bend. What should you do?

A

Don’t accelerate and keep foot over break in case you need to slow down. When it comes to taking a sharp bend in the road, it’s particularly important to approach slowly and with caution even if the speed limit is 60 mph.

Q

In detail, how to top up the engine coolant to correct levels?

A
  1. Check car manual what the mixture should be and where inside the bonnet, the engine coolant is located (See Fig.38). On average, use either a 1:1 mixture of water and antifreeze or pre-mixed antifreeze straight into the coolant
  2. Make sure engine switched off and cold before checking and Identifying high and low level markings
  3. Slowly unscrew the cap (there may be some pressure built up)
  4. Pour the mixture into the engine coolant until it reaches half way between the level markings (don’t mix different brands)
  5. Securely screw the cap back on

Q

How often should you top up your engine coolant?

A

You need to check your engine coolant (See Fig.38) at least twice a year before summer and winter, ideally. Although, this advice may vary between car manufacturers. If you are having to top up more often, you may have a leak.

Q

You are waiting at the giveaway line at a T junction to turn left. The road you are about to join is wide. Where should you focus your eyes?

A

For any traffic on the right as when I go, I will be potentially slow down traffic coming from the right side. I should not have to worry about the oncoming left traffic so long as I have positioned my car the correct way as I stopped at the giveaway line.

Q

Tell me how you’d check the direction indicators are working. You don’t need to exit the vehicle.

A

Tell the examiner that you’d press the hazard warning lights button (See Fig.41 and Fig.94). Then you would walk around the car to make sure all six indicators are working (you don’t need to physically check on the driving test as it’s a ‘tell me’ question).
