Q

How do you fill your car with gas?

A
  1. Park in the gas station 1 metre away from the gas pumps so that the back side of the car is opposite the pumps.
  2. Engine off
  3. Take keys with you
  4. On the back side of the car, find the fuel cap and open it
  5. Pick which gas your car runs on
  6. Keep the pump upright when holding it
  7. Insert the pump in the fuel hole all the way and lightly squeeze the silver hand pedal to release the fuel as how hard you squeeze controls the intensity of the flow of the gas.
  8. Look at the monitor on top of the pumps to see how much you will be paying, the amount of litres you inserted and pence paid per ltr.
  9. Keep pressing until it clicks and the gas will stop by itself. If the pump was inserted correctly, it wont overflow once full.
  10. Once it clicks, slightly pull it out so that most of the nozzle is inside the gas hole, shake the nozzle a bit while in that position and while carefully pulling out, tilt the pump upright to avoid spilling onto the car.
  11. Put the pump back on its station and it will turn the pump motor off
  12. On the monitor, there should be a marked number to the side of the digital display. Make mental note of that number
  13. Close the car fuel cap
  14. Go into the store and tell the cashier ‘‘I am paying for number _.’’

Tell me how you make sure your head restraint is correctly adjusted so it provides the best protection in the event of a crash.

A

The head restraint should be adjusted so the rigid part of the head restraint is at least as high as the eye or top of the ears, and as close to the back of the head as is comfortable. Note: Some restraints might not be adjustable.

Q

Tell me how you’d check that the headlights and tail lights are working. You don’t need to exit the vehicle.

A

Explain you’d operate the switch (turn on ignition if necessary), then walk round vehicle (as this is a ‘tell me’ question, you don’t need to physically check the lights).

17
Q

Envision what the headlight switch looks like

A

(See Fig.34)

18
Q

Tell me how you’d know if there was a problem with your anti-lock braking system.

A

Warning light should illuminate if there is a fault with the anti-lock braking system.

19
Q

Envision what the illuminated anti-lock breaking system sign looks looks like and where it would be

A

(See Fig.1) The yellow ABS sign

20
Q

Tell me how you’d check the direction indicators are working. You don’t need to exit the vehicle.

A

Explain you’d operate the switch (turn on ignition if necessary), and then walk round vehicle (as this is a ‘tell me’ question, you don’t need to physically check the lights).

21
Q

Tell me how you’d check the brake lights are working on this car.

A

Explain you’d operate the brake pedal, make use of reflections in windows or doors, or ask someone to help.

22
Q

Tell me how you’d check the power-assisted steering is working before starting a journey.

A

If the steering becomes heavy, the system may not be working properly. Before starting a journey, 2 simple checks can be made.

Gentle pressure on the steering wheel, maintained while the engine is started, should result in a slight but noticeable movement as the system begins to operate. Alternatively turning the steering wheel just after moving off will give an immediate indication that the power assistance is functioning.

23
Q

Tell me how you’d switch on the rear fog light(s), envision which warning lights should be visible when on and explain when you’d use it/them. You don’t need to exit the vehicle.

A

Operate switch (turn on dipped headlights and ignition if necessary) (See Fig.96). Check warning light is on (See Fig.97). You’d only use them if visibility is seriously reduced as when not in such conditions, it can dazzle other drivers.

24
Q

Tell me how you switch your headlight from dipped to main beam and explain how you’d know the main beam is on.

A

Operate switch (with ignition or engine on if necessary), check with main beam warning light.

25
Q

Envision what the illuminated main beam warning light looks like and where it would be

A

(See Fig.1) The blue light

26
Q

Open the bonnet and tell me how you’d check that the engine has sufficient oil.

A

Identify dipstick/oil level indicator, describe check of oil level against the minimum and maximum markers.

27
Q

Envision the dipstick/oil level indicator

A

(See Fig.35)
