Mechanism of action

A

Amiloride - acts on distal convoluted tubule where it inhibits the uptake of sodium (and therefore water), causing sodium and water loss and retention of potassium.

GI upset

A

Explain that their potassium level is low because of the water tablet they are already taking. You are now offering to change to a different water tablet, which contains another medicine that will hopefully prevent the loss of potassium
