Q

optimal posture

A

the body segments are all aligned vertically

line of gravity passes through the joint axes

normal human anatomy makes this possible

Q

correct posture

A

when the line of gravity falls close to, but not through, most axis

in normal standing posture, there is minimal amount of stress applied to the joint (less compression of our joints)

Q

faulty posture

A

any position that increases stress to the joints

will result in injury, limitation of motion or deformity
–> gravity has a larger moment arm, external torque, internal torque
———> more stress (compression) on our joints
