When is the postnatal period?
first 6 weeks
Will be seen by midwife and GP
What are key postnatal conditons?
Postpartnum haemorrhage
Postnatal mental health condtions
Venous thromboembolism
Sepsis
Pre-eclampsi
What is primary post partum haemorrhage?
Blood loss >500ml within 24hrs of delivery
What is secondary postpartum haemorrhage?
Blood loss >500ml from 24hrs postpartum to 6 weeks
What are the 4 T’s of primary PPH?
Tone- insuffienct contraction of womb causes losts of bleeding
Tissue- remaining tissues e.g. placenta or membranes. Uterus tries to expel these by contracting but this causes haemorrhage
Trauma- e.g. perineal tears
Thrombin- clotting/coagulation not occuring properly, due to infection, placental abruption ect.
