Male physiology Flashcards
What do germ cells do and where are they found?
In seminiferous tubules in testis.
They produce sperm
What do sertoli cells do?
These cells are found in the seminiferous tubules, they are also called sustentacular cells. They support germ cells and produce inhibin.
What does inhibin do?
Produced by sertoli cells.
This is a protein which inhibits synthesis and release of follicle stimulating hormone in the pituitary gland and reduces LH levels.
Part of the negative feedback system along with testosterone.
What do Leydig cells do?
Also called Interstial cells, they produce testosterone.
What does FSH do?
Follicular stimulating hormone stimulates SPERM production by acting on Sertoli cells.
What does LH do?
Acts on Leydig cells to stimulate testosterone production.
