What are analgesia can midwives prescribe?
- Paracetamol

What does NSAID stand for?
Non-Steroidal Anti-inflammatory Drugs
When should a midwife avoid NSAID?
- In pregnancy
- Asthma
- Pre-eclampsia
- Renal/heart disease ( will increase sodium and water retention)
- Peptic ulcer disease (may cause bleeding)
How would you prescribe paracetamol?
500mg tab
1g tablet every four hourly with a maximum dose of 4g in a 24 hour period.

Can you prescribe diclofenac for sever after pains?
- Yes if women has had diclofenac before and she has no other contraindications.
200mg to 400mg tablets every 6-8 hours with a max dose of 1200mg in 24 hours

When would midwives prescribe PA Diclofenac?
The Wahine has experienced a tear that needed suturing
What haemorrhoid suppositories can we prescribe?
- Proctosedyl 1 suppository into rectum 3 QID for a week
followed by twice daily for seven days
then once a day for seven days

Amoxycillin or amoxycillin clavulanate
if a Wahine has a penicillin allergy what would be the alternative antibiotic for a wound infection or mastitis?
