What is the correct amount of Vitamin K to give IM?
0.1mL
What is the correct amount of Vitamin K PO?
0.2mL
How many does of oral Vitamin K is needed and how often?
3 oral does at birth, 1 week and 5-6 weeks postpartum
What do you prescribe for oral thrush?
Nystatin (Nstatin) 100,00 units/mL
How much Nystatin is prescribed & how long for?
1mL QID after feeds for 7 days
If you suspected conjunctivitis what are your actions?
- Swab eyes and nasal passage
- Encourage the use of breastmilk until results
confirm suspicions - prescription for Chloramhenicol 0.5% - 1%

What medication would you give for thrush on the bottom?
- Clotrimazole 1%
- Miconazole 2%
A Baby develops Jaundice in the first 24 hours of life is this normal?
NO this is pathological and transfer of care is recommended.
Jaundice is visible at 4 days of age only on the eyes and face.
This is normal continue to breastfeed the pēpi and use filtered sunlight
Definition of prolonged Jaundice?
- 2wks for a full term pēpi
- 3wks for a premature pēpi
Pēpi can lose weight in the first week of life, what is a normal percentage of loss?
up to 7% - 10%
As a midwife what is your care plan for a pēpi that has lost 7 %?
- Continue to feed every 3 - 4hrly as this is a normal weight loss in the first week.
- re-weigh in three days
At what percentage do you need to consult?
10% or more

When is Jaundice considered pathological
- If it occurs in the first 24hrs
- prolonged jaundice does not improve and continues for more
than 3weeks.

- Speak with the parents
- Consultation with peds

Yes - as the tear ducts can become blocked.
-Massaging and applying breastmilk will help to clear it.

Placental Vein carries oxygenated and nutrient rich blood to the baby
The Aorta in the umbilical cord carries what?
Deoxygenated blood back to the mama/ placenta
What can cause absent femoral pulses?
Aortoiliac occlusive disease

It occurs when the iliac artery that brings blood to your legs becomes narrow or blocked
