positive approach - 'the acknowledgement of free will' Flashcards
what is free will
the belief that all humans have their own choices for their course of action and behaviour. we are free from coercion to choose a choice of action and are not determined by internal or external pressures
how is the positive approach different from others
is it not deterministic however behaviourist, biological and psychodynamic are (cognitive is partially)
it focuses on what is RIGHT with you rather than what is WRONG
it is less scientific and harder to measure
what is the free will example
Denier and Seligman
describe the free will example
they explored that the more time students spend with friends and family, the happier they are however the less time, the more depressed. There was a negative correlation between levels of happiness and depression. this highlights we are in CONTROL of our happiness as we CHOOSE to spend time w friends and fam because it increases our mood. our emotional state is in our CONTROL
