Polymers of Life 4: Peptides Flashcards
1
Q
How are peptides formed
A
Condensation reaction —> H2O amino acid condensation
2
Q
Definition dipeptide, tripeptide, polypeptide
A
- Dipeptide = 2 amino acids coming together
- tripeptide = 3 amino acid
- polypeptide= anything with more than 20 amino acid
3
Q
How are amino acids sometimes notated
A
with just the three first letters of the amino acid
Eg. Alanine = Ala
Cysteine = Cys
( some require looking up as some have the same 1st 3 letters )
4
Q
Definition of peptide bond
A
Amide linkage
= OH from COOH, carboxylic acid
= H from NH2 , amine group
= H2O molecule remain bond become amide linkage = OC- NH
5
