Definition dipeptide, tripeptide, polypeptide

A
  • Dipeptide = 2 amino acids coming together
  • tripeptide = 3 amino acid
  • polypeptide= anything with more than 20 amino acid

How are amino acids sometimes notated

A

with just the three first letters of the amino acid

Eg. Alanine = Ala
Cysteine = Cys

( some require looking up as some have the same 1st 3 letters )

A

Amide linkage

= OH from COOH, carboxylic acid
= H from NH2 , amine group

= H2O molecule remain bond become amide linkage = OC- NH
