POLITICAL ENVIRONMENT - ENVIRONMENT POLICY Flashcards
Whatare environmental policies
Environmental policies refer to the decision and actions taken by the UK government in relation to managing the earth’s natural resources (natural being the environment)
What do environmental policies include
Litter and waste disposal policies (WRAP is an organisation that the government fund try to help companies reduce the amount of packaging waste they produce)
Managing pollution - Emissions trading (Emissions trading = an approach to reducing pollution that has been used successfully to protect human health and the environment.)
Flood management measures
Managing the countryside (For example: Balancing the amount of housing to the amount of countryside)
Farming and fishing policies - Making it sustainable
What are the opportunities
Introduce greener production processes in order to sell ‘carbon permits’ through the EU’s ‘emissions trading system’ - If companies are greener than they expected and are in line with the regulations, they can sell their permit to other companies, which in turn will increase their revenue.
Receive green subsidies (subsidies: a sum of money granted by the state or a public body to help an industry or business keep the price of a commodity or service low.) from UK government for investing in renewables - Solar panels etc
Save money by reducing waste (Get WRAP to advise them
What are the threats
Fine for businesses who do not comply with environmental regulations
