PNF Flashcards

1
Q

What is the role of the muscle spindle

A

-Detect how far and fast a muscle is being stretched

Q

Describe the process of PNF stretching

A

-A partner will perform a passive stretch for around 12 seconds
-The muscle spindles will initiate a stretch reflex
-The performer performs an isometric contraction
-The golgi tendon organs will produce an autogenic inhibition which will override the stretch reflex
-The muscle should be able to stretch further during the next passive stretch

Q

What is the role of the golgi tendon organs

A

-between muscle fibres and tendons
-detects the level of tension within the tendon
-releases autogenic inhibition which overrides stretch reflex
