Name and explain the 3 cycles involved in periodisation

A

Macrocycle- the large period which involves a long term performance goal

Mesocycle-usually a 4-12 week period of training with a specific focus

Microcycle- a description of a week/a couple of training units that is within a mesocycle

A

Preparation phase: general conditioning and developing fitness levels

Competition period: performer refines skills and techniques and maintains fitness levels

Transition: Rest and Recovery allows athlete to recharge physically and mentally after a macrocycle

A

A reduction in the volume of traning prior to a major competition
