Plumonary Vessels Flashcards
What do pulmonary arteries do?
Gas exchange
Describe the left pulmonary artery. Length? Position? When does it branch?
Shorter. Anterior to descending aorta. Branches within the lung
Describe the right pulmonary artery Length? Position? When does it branch?
Longer. Anterior to tracheal bifuracation. Posterior to ascending aorta, SVC. Branches outside the lung.
Pulmonary veins.
What do they have?
Where do they drain?
How many are there? Why?
They have Oxygenated blood.
Drain into the left atrium.
Variable number leaving the lung due to genetics.
Describe a Pulmonary Embolism.
Veins do not have muscle to pump blood. Depends on contracting muscle. Blood pools around valves. Clots form. Clot breaks and lodges in the lung. Highly fatal. Serious for non-mobile patients.
Bronchial vessels.
How many arteries?
Where does each originate?
What do they supply?
1 or 2 for each lung. Left from Aorta.
Right from 3rd intercostal artery or left bronchial arteries.
Supply conducting passages of respiratory system.
Describe how the vagus nerve innervates the bronchioles.
Parasympahetic nervous system. CN10 Constricts bronchioles and vessels.
Describe how the Cardiac Plexus innervates the bronchioles.
Sympathetic nervous system. originates in the cervical and thoracic areas. Dilates bronchioles and vessels of the bronchial tree and heart.
