What is a background render?

A

This is an option in preferences that allows you to have Final Cut Pro perform render operations whenever your system is idle. Using the “start after” command within the preferences you can choose the amount of time your system is idle, in seconds, before Final Cut Pro begins background rendering.

Define render.

A

To process video and audio with any effects or transitions and store the result on disk as a render file. Render files are stored with your final cut pro event in project files. When you publish or export a project it is similarly rendered to create the output files.

Better Quality: full res, may decrease playback performance for high quality large frame size video
Better Performance: decreased res but maintains playback performance even for very large media files.

What does an orange line indicate in a clip?

A

You have added a clip, effect, transition or other item that requires rendering. Rendering starts about 5 seconds after you stop working and loving the pointer in FCP.
