8
Q

Oceanic-oceanic divergent boundary (OOD)

A

as plates made up of oceanic crust pull apart, a crack in the ocean floor appears, then magma oozes up from the mantle to fill in the space

13
Q

oceanic-continental convergent boundary (OCC)

A

the thinner and denser oceanic plate is overridden by the thicker and less dense continental plate - ocean plate undergoes subduction

14
Q

subduction zones

A

where an oceanic plate can slide underneath a continental plate due to it’s higher density, volcanic arc grows above the subducting plate

16
Q

oceanic-oceanic convergent boundary (OOC)

A

one of the plates subducts under the other, the older, denser one. subducting plate is heated as it is forced deeper into the mantle and begins to melt. As magma chambers begin to rise, if they reach the surface a volcanic eruption occurs

17
Q

what does oceanic-oceanic convergent boundary make?

A

volcanoes

18
Q

continental-continental convergent boundary (CCC)

A

2 thick continental plates collide-no subduction, intense compression can cause extensive folding and faulting of rocks.

19
Q

what do continental-continental convergent boundaries make?

A

mountains

20
Q

transform boundary

A

two plates that slide past each other, sometimes they get stuck, as they unstick, energy radiates outwards and shakes the earth

21
Q

example of OOD boundary

A

mid-atlantic ridge

22
Q

what do transform boundaries make?

A

earthquakes

23
Q

example of CCD boundary

A

East African rift valley, red sea

24
Q

example of OCC boundary

A

Juan de Fuca, Andes Mountain range

25
Q

example of OOC boundary

A

Caribbean islands of Martinique

26
Q

example of CCC boundary

A

Himalayas
