Q

What is the structure of whether the mother is the primary caregiver debate?

A

Introduction:
definition - a parent that is primarily responsible for another person
Some could believe they should be caregiver due to milk providing whilst others may go against due to if the women is in difficult circumstances

important key points and evidence you could use if this question had come up:

providing the milk for breatfeeding. The NHS says that infants should be breastfed for the first 6 months of there life to build a “strong and emotional connection between the mother and the child” breastfeeding is important due to ID demands

Seperating the child from mother may then cause emotional distress and could be affectionless character - Mensah and Kienen had said they had problems with there child’s cognitive development with matematical skills, literacy, communication, social and emotional development - this could then lead to pyshological problems in development of the child

Skin to skin contact through kangaroo hold - held against the mothers chest and there skin is then touching - provided to stable babies in hospitals and 40% had a reduction in babies death and 65% reduction in nosocinomical factors - produces oxytocin - this plays a key role when trying to bond with a child - regulate heart beat and temprature for the baby

The mother may have insecurities about body leading to metal health problems like anxiety and depression - they had found out that 41% of women after pregnancy felt more negative about there bodies - if stays with father there is then less pressure on the mother so father may then be taking place

Women may be the best fit for primary caregiver as some men might not be pyscholgically equipped for an intense emotional relationship - Heerman et el had said that men are less sensitive towards infant cues than mothers are - mother staying at home due to the demands of the ID

Some could believe men not being seen as emotional is then outdated - Getler et al had said that men’s testosterone levels drop to be able to “respond more sensitivly towards a child’s needs” - showing that men are just as capable - the debate and stereotypes are then evolving so that men feel free to take the roles that are traditionally reserved for the opposite sex

There should then be a holistic approach - both caregivers - two parents too then satisfy parts of development - like father to resolve the oiedipus complex
