Cognitive approach(the computer analogy) Flashcards
What is the computer analogy?
mind works similar way to a computer - receives an input(keyboard), process it , through display and storage, and then output, recalling a previously saved document
How does our human mind work similarly?
senses are the input, info is then stored, retrieved when we then need it (input, process, output) example: teacher asks you a question - listen to explanation - rehearse it - able to answer the question
What is the multi store model of memory?
three stores of memory: sensory register, STM,LTM
What does the sensory register do?
input from your various senses and only lasts for a fraction of a second
What happens if you then pay attention to the input?
moves to the short term memory (30 secs and between 5 to 9 items (7+-2) then you may pay attention to it will move to the short term memory - if you then rehearse this info it then moves to the LTM - it will then be retrieved
