PLANES & AXES OF MOVEMENTS (SOC 21) Flashcards
How many types of planes are there?
There are three different types of planes.
Describe the movements of a sagittal plane?
The sagittal plane divides the body from top to bottom (vertically). In a sport related situation the movement would be flexion and extension. An example of this would be kicking a football.
Describe the movements of a frontal plane?
The frontal plane divides the body from top to bottom (vertically). In a game related situation an example would be bowling in cricket. The movement however in this situation would be abduction & adduction.
Describe the movements of a transverse plane?
Divides the body across the middle of the body (horizontal) - (‘superior’) & bottom section.
What are the three types of axis?
Frontal, sagittal & vertical axis
Describe the frontal axis?
The frontal axis runs
from the side to side, formed by transverse planes (flex-extension). An example of this is a sport related situation would be a summersult.
Describe the sagittal axis?
The sagittal axis runs from back to front, formed by transverse planes (add-abduction). An example of this in a sport related situation would be a cartwheel.
Describe the vertical axis?
The vertical axis runs from top to bottom, formed by sagittal & frontal planes. An example of this in a sport related situation would be a trampoline twist.
